Wind by Bob Davidson
We won, we won!! For the first time ever, BIPS won first place in the SCDA Festival of one act plays, held at our home ground at the Birnam Institute in February 2012. We had a brilliant time rehearsing and put our success down to not rehearsing very much and having loads of tea breaks. The play was written by BIPS member, Bob Davidson and was placed third in the 2011 Scott Salver competition. Bob also directed and was in the cast along with Michelle Rodley, Billy Neilson, Wendy Huggins and Marilyn Howe. We also won the Frank Martin award for the play which best depicted Scottish Life and Character.
Well - we took the play to Aberdeen for the divisional round of the SCDA festival of one act plays held in the Arts Centre and came second, winning The Quaich and so qualified to appear at the Scottish finals. By now we were in the top 8 plays from an initial entry of 141 and absolutely thrilled to have made it to the Scottish finals - a first for BIPS we think. We put on a stonking performance in the MacRobert Centre on Thursday 26th April and although we didn't win the festival we came home to Birnam with two trophies, one for Scottish Life and Character and another for best theatrical moment - the bicycle powered kettle attempt! A brilliant end to our festival journey. The play was great fun to do and we are indebted to our two stage managers, John Anderson and Trixi Macaulay for their help along the way.
