2021 Lockdown Monologues
2020 and 2021 were extraordinary years for our club. The COVID-19 pandemic meant that the 2020 SCDA One-Act Festival had to be cancelled after the District Heats so the wonderful MOT didn't get it's next round airing, and beautiful set of the The Allotment didn't get reconstructed for an in-house showing. There was no festival at all in 2021.
SCDA ran a monologue competition and BIPS submitted 2 entries. We were fortunate to be offered original works by Bob Davidson and Mike Tibbetts. Entries had to be submitted as videos, so the filming was homespun, on iPhones. And not our usual staging in Birnam Arts - instead the stages were Billy's shed and Liz's kitchen! Mel Brockway gave support to Liz via on-line directing using Zoom. Fitted Wardrobes made it to the final 18 (out of 60+ entries), here are links to the videos. There was also a third runner, Lesley Whitwood did a fine performance of Flowers by Joyce Grenfell but unfortunately licensing constraints meant this wasn't included in the competition and never made it to YouTube.
